It is now five years since then Indianapolis Colts quarterback Andrew Luck shocked the sports world by announcing his retirement shortly before the NFL's 2019 season was about to commence.
I think back to first hearing the news. I woke up in the middle of the night and noticed a private message from my friend informing me of the retirement.
The first thing I did, after that, was go to the NFL Network. I watched the hastily-prepared press conference live.
I had a very strong feeling, at the time, that it was an exit strategy on behalf of Luck and that he would end up playing for another team a year later. I suspected the New England Patriots would have been that team because the Colts would not have traded him away and, for sure, would not have allowed Luck to go to the Pats.
History has proved I was wrong on all counts. Luck has remained retired.
