Guardiola/Mourinho

Jose Mourinho was finally announced as Manchester United's next boss yesterday.

I had a look at the reaction online yesterday evening. One thing that caught my attention was a person anticipating the Manchester Derby.

New Manchester City boss - Pep Guardiola - and Mourinho have had quite a rivalry over the years. Most of their meetings came when Guardiola was in charge of Barcelona and United's new boss was at Real Madrid.

Some of the United supporters were going on about how Mourinho is 'the only guy who can compete with Guardiola'.

I disagreed with that assessment. I didn't know if I was right or not, so checked the head-to-head stats just to make sure.

They've played fifteen times. Guardiola's teams have won 7 of them, Mourinho's have won 3 and there have been five draws.

If leaving a game with 1 point is 'competing' then, yeah, that woks.

If it's nabbing all three points, then Guardiola gets the nod. You can't argue with that.
