The Torch Draft

The Pro Wrestling Torch newsletter did their fantasy wrestling draft in a recent issue and I'd like to share with you which performers I voted for.

The idea behind this draft is to imagine that there is no major promotion and you have the capital to start a company up from scratch. The rules state that you can only select ten contemporary performers and give a reason behind each pick.

I emailed my list off to Wade Keller a number of weeks ago. Here are my votes (not in any particular order):

1. Shawn Michaels - I don't think I've ever seen HBK off-form. Even when he was hard to deal with he gave his all in the ring.
2. Awesome Kong - One of the most interesting acts in TNA.
3. John Cena - The star of the present and future in wrestling.
4. Randy Orton - Plays and will play the ultimate antagonist to Cena for a long time.
5. Edge - He has been outstanding in recent years. He's really stepped up his game.
6. Chris Jericho - This guy is back in full swing thanks to the Michaels feud.
7. Santino Marella - The funniest act on TV today.
8. Kurt Angle - One of the only wrestlers in TNA with a certain level of mainstream recognition. I didn't want an entire roster of WWE wrestlers and feel Angle would be a great choice because we know he can have good matches with other male wrestlers on my list.
9. Mickie James - I wanted Beth Phoenix but her and Kong are too similar so I'm picking James as the protagonist to the former TNA Knockouts champion.
10. The Undertaker - the greatest gimmick in the modern era. Enough said.
