Richard Kiel

Richard Kiel, who played the character of Jaws in not one - but two - James Bond movies passed away the other day aged seventy-four.

There is no doubt in mind when I proclaim that Jaws was the greatest Bond villain.

This is in my opinion, of course. However, I'd like to make a gamble that there are many people out there in the world who will agree with me.

At 7ft 2in, he was perfect for the role of the towering baddie with steel teeth.

I'll always remember his first scene in the movie Moonraker. Jaws had been in the previous Bond film, The Spy Who Loved Me. I recall watching the opening part of Moonraker with James Bond on a jet plane and then out of nowhere Jaws made he reappearance in Bond's life. I recall shouting 'Yes!' knowing that the character was back for another stint.

I also remember near the end of the movie when Jaws fell in love and ultimately became a good guy.

It sort of gave those that hated Jaws a reason to like him. It's something you never got with any of the other villains from the books and movies.

They sure don't make then like they used to.
