Neighbours Looking For A Double

The National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences revealed the nominees for June's Emmy Awards last week. Interestingly, and for the very first time, Neighbours is in the running.

The Australian soap opera has been nominated in the award for 'Best Daytime Drama Series'. It will battle it out with The Bay, The Bold & the Beautiful, Days of our Lives, General Hospital and The Young and the Restless.

Neighbours is being distributed to US TV screens through Amazon nowadays after relaunching in the autumn of 2023. I suppose that is the reason why it has been nominated for an EMMY for the very first time.

There is another category in which Neighbours could pick up an award.

Guy Pearce - who returned, as Mike Young, to Neighbours for the show's apparent final episodes in 2022 and was included in some episodes of last year's relaunch - is in contention for 'Guest Performance in a Daytime Drama Series'.

I have written numerous times in the past how Pearce's return to Neighbours has been both surprising and a testament to the actor's respect for the series which paved the way for his Hollywood success.

He is deserving of that EMMY.

I don't know anything about the other actors' performances in that category. However, I notice Dick Van Dyke appearing as a guest in Days of our Lives is on the ballot and - if I were to make a  guess - his name value, as well as his age, should likely make him the favourite.
