'What A Terrible Idea!'

I was looking through the news this morning and stumbled upon something I didn't think I would ever see.

Especially in 2023.

My immediate thought to what I read was a simple 'What a terrible idea!'

Because a new series of Fawlty Towers is absolutely that.

The original Fawlty Towers ran for two seasons (okay, 'series') in 1975 and 1979. In my opinion, it is one of the best British comedies ever.

Set in a hotel in Torquay, it starred John Cleese as the hotel owner who had his struggles running the establishment.

Cleese is set to reprise his role of Basil Fawlty. Unfortunately, the other major part of why Fawlty Towers was hysterical - Manuel the waiter played by Andrew Sachs - cannot be in it for the obvious reason that Sachs passed away in 2016.

And that's the main gripe I have with the idea of a return to Fawlty Towers.

You CANNOT do it without Manuel.

You also cannot do it - as it is remembered - in today's society. I struggle to see how this will be successful in any way.
