More About Neighbours' Potential Demise

I have been following the story I wrote about a couple of days ago about Channel 5 in the UK planning to discontinue airing Neighbours from this coming summer and what it means for the programme as a whole.

From what I suspected initially, and from what I've been able to gather since, it looks like it's dead in the water.

I read an article yesterday which had pictures of the cast members - and other staff - leaving a meeting which was held on Monday. Some of the people looked really sad.

The same article noted that June appears to be the time when filming will wrap for what could be the last time.

There are a lot of people online with a 'Save Neighbours' campaign. Not sure how that will work, but I guess it's worth a try.

It's a shame because the soap is thirty-seven years old and was, at one time, one of the most popular TV programmes back during the time when the BBC aired it and we only had four channels to watch.

Neighbours

Which leads me on to something.

I wonder if there is any way a streaming platform would be willing to pick it up? That would alleviate some of the production costs Channel 5 has been pumping in.

Channel 5's announcement that the decision has been made because it wants to concentrate on producing British drama fills me with fear over the future of Home and Away on that channel.

5 does not contribute as much to Home and Away's production (apparently!). However, I cannot help but think that, once Neighbours is done for, Home and Away will be next.
