Mr Fuji

Harry Fujiwara, who wrestler - and later managed - under the name Mr. Fuji passed away over the weekend. He was eighty-two years old.

Fuji's in-ring career was over when I first became interested in the WWF during the 1980's, so my first memories of him are from his times managing some of the dastardly bad guys in the business.

He was mainly a tag team manager, but then ended up in charge of Yokozuna from 1992. This turned out to be - in storyline - his most successful partnership as his new charge ended up winning the WWF Championship twice in 1993. The championship run lasted nearly one year

I own personal memory of Mr. Fuji was when I had the opportunity to meet him in late 1993. He was absolutely nothing like the character he played on TV. He seemed to be a nice chap who had time to talk and have a photo taken with me.

Fuji left our screens in the mid-1990's when Yokozuna's run came to an end. He was inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame in 2007.
