With a few days left in 2012, I wanted to write a few things but will cram them into one post.

One of the things that I seem to have missed writing about was something that happened in the spring.
I received a letter in the post from the United States. A lady had written to a number of people with the same initial and surname as yours truly in the hope of finding friends she had met on holiday.
As I wasn't the person she was looking for, I emailed her back just to tell her. I suggested she write a letter to my local newspaper and gave her the email and postal address.
The lady responded and thanked me for the advice. She then told me that no one else had replied to her.
I kind of felt like I was doing her a disservice by giving her the newspaper addresses and leaving her to sort it out for herself so I went on my own search for the friends.
I did a Google search and came across a couple bearing the same name. They were in charge of a community action group not too far from where I live.
I tried to find out a bit more about the group and came across a PDF of a letter (signed by the possible lady I was searching for) and photograph (of the gentleman I may have been trying to find).
I phoned the number on the letterhead but it went unanswered so I wrote the couple a letter and sent along a copy of the letter the American lady had sent me.
In the meantime, I had emailed the website address of the action group to the lady in America to see if the couple representing the action group were her friends.
She studied the signature of the female to old letters that had been sent to and from their old address. It matched.
Old holiday photographs compared to the action group photos were also a match.
So, all I had to do was hope the pair hadn't moved house again otherwise the letter wasn't getting there.
A few days later, I received a phone call from the lady who shared the same initial and surname as myself. She thanked me for getting the friends back in touch.
I received an email from the lady in America. She thanked me for taking the time to help her out and told me it had been well over twenty years since they had last communicated. I was quite shocked. I just assumed it was a few years at least so it made me feel even better that I had done what I had.

The Wrestling Observer year end awards will be given out in the upcoming weeks. I never vote because I only watch WWE wrestling nowadays and would feel like I am being biased in my praise and criticism.
The one category I always like looking at is 'The Most Disgusting Promotional Tactic'. Winners in the past have been continuing the show after Owen Hart died, interviewing Melanie Pillman the day after Brian Pillman had died and the 'Stand Up For WWE' campaign during Linda McMahon's first attempt to run for Senate.
I'm going to guess that this year's award once again goes to WWE. This time for everything they did in the weeks following Jerry Lawler's heart attack.
Things like bringing out a 'Long Live The King' t-shirt (I never saw these on sale but Michael Cole was wearing one a week after the heart attack), airing footage of Lawler being given CPR in the back as he was wheeled to an awaiting ambulance and having CM Punk interupt his returning promo.

A load of NFL head coaches are going to have their heads on the chopping block from tomorrow.
The not so surprising first two expected to go are Andy Reid (Philadelphia) and Norv Turner (San Diego).
It will be interesting to see where both these guys end up.

I'll be back tomorrow with a look back at the predictions I made at the start of the year.
