The Picture

A week ago I received an email from Friends Reunited informing me that there were a few new members added to my school year. I get these emails frequently but never look.

If I wanted to keep in contact with people over the years I would have done so the old fashioned way rather than resorting to looking up their names on a website years later.

In the evening after reading the email I started thinking of my last few days at school and thought of a few people who I hadn't seen since and I morbidly thought that I would never cross paths with them again. In this lifetime, anyway.

Then a day or so later I was looking through the family notices section of the local paper and a picture stood out at me. It was of someone who was in scouts with me as well as two years above me in high school.

He was listed in the memorial section so he must have passed away at least a year ago.

I keep thinking of the timing - how I was thinking about never seeing colleagues again in this life-time one day and then reading that paper the following day and it just emphasises the thought that I had.

I guess it's a part of growing up and I'll get used to seeing names appearing in the paper like that. Maybe getting back in touch isn't so bad after all.
