There was a nice tribute to 'Rowdy' Roddy Piper on WWE Raw this week.
The show opened up with everyone on the stage and the bell was tolled ten times in his memory. It then went to a video package showing highlights of his career.
I thought it was nice. The shame about it all is - barring one image that got through - the company had to tell Piper's WWE story without referring to Hulk Hogan.
The thing is, you CANNOT tell this story properly without mentioning WrestleMania and his feud with The Hulkster.
They did manage to bring up the second WrestleMania when Piper fought Mr. T, so they did get to show him and Mr. T interacting. Like I said, it's a shame they couldn't have shown the stuff from the Hogan and T versus Piper and Paul Orndorff main event from the first event.
Had that match not been a hit, there really wouldn't have been a sequel the following year.
I guess that's how it will go until that day the company decides it's okay to mention Hulk Hogan again. I won't be holding my breath on it being any time soon, though!
