Finally..

'Finally, The Rock has returned to WWE'

And what a return it was.

The former wrestler, now Hollywood actor, was announced as the special host of this year's WrestleMania in the final segment to Monday night's TV show.

He came out to one of the loudest receptions I have seen in professional wrestling and cut one of the best promos to be seen in World Wrestling Entertainment for a long while.

He did seem to cut the legs out from under John Cena and The Miz, however.

In this promo, he attacked The Miz for going around calling himself 'Awesome' and noted how 'if you go around telling someone you are awesome, it means you suck' (or words to that effect). The irony in the comment is this was said by the guy who called himself 'The Great One' back when he was a full-time wrestler.

The mocking of John Cena was also topical to point out as Cena is the number one guy in the company and The Rock coming out and mocking him in this way lowers him in the fans' eyes especially when you consider Rocky is short-term and Cena is there for the long haul.

With that said, it's pretty clear to me that The Rock and Cena stuff is a way to build anticipation to them coming face-to-face in an angle at WrestleMania. It will also involve The Miz as he will more than likely end up defending his world title against John Cena.

The end of the show could see The Rock and John Cena celebrating together mid-ring. The company is desperate for Cena to get the rub from major stars from the past (see Austin's Hall of Fame speech two years ago where he passed the proverbial torch in the form of a beer can to him at the end of the ceremony) I have no doubt in my mind that they will want the two together in some form to indicate another endorsement from a former star.
