What a night for Justin Herbert.
The Chargers quarterback threw for three hundred and eighteen yards and rushed for thirty-two. As for his scores - three touchdowns.
If you've been following my posts since the start of this week, you should be aware that Herbert was my main target when I participated in the draft of the fantasy league I play in. He picked up 27.92 points for my team.
That wasn't the only good to come out of last night's result.
Remember on Tuesday, when I wrote about my plans to continue doing what Vicki and I would do each week of the NFL season and enter a pick 'em contest? Well, I was unable to fix up entry with an American radio stations (as Vick did). Not that I didn't try. I needed to have a phone number to enter and, seeing as I don't have one, I thought it would be wiser to find a contest closer to home.
Therefore, I came across a website which caters to the UK. There are no prizes involved. Just bragging rights, I guess.
I entered with the team name 'PicksForVick' to both honour her and as a play on the weekly phone reminders that read 'NFL Picks for Vick' from the years when we entered the radio station contests.
After two games, OUR record is 1-1. I chose the Chargers because of the stat I noted yesterday about Jim Harbaugh having a perfect 5-0 record as an NFL head coach in week one. It has now improved to 6-0.
Speaking of reminders, I should compose one to alert me about Harbaugh's record record in 2026 when I am in the process of writing next year's edition of Taylor's Pro Football Gambling Annual.
My American football viewing will continue later today when I get to watch my first Texas Longhorns game of the season. They're playing San Jose State on DAZN from 5pm BST.
Just like last week, I'll wear the Longhorns t-shirt gifted from Vicki. I shall be cheering on Arch Manning and, when the time comes, I'll do weekly tribute to my friend.
This week's idea is a good one. If I manage to pull it off...
