Donald Sutherland

Donald Sutherland passed away yesterday at the age of eighty-eight.

Upon hearing the news, I knew there was going to be one film I wanted to write about today.

My favourite film Sutherland was in isn't one of the first flicks the majority would think of. For me, it'll always be Lock Up.

The 1989 title starred Sylvester Stallone as Frank Leone - a person serving time in an open prison who is moved to a maximum security facility overnight. The head of Leone's new prison is played by Sutherland.

To put it bluntly, Sutherland's character of Warden Drumgoole is a nasty bastard. My younger self bloody hated him!

Lock Up has been in my video collection since I first watched it on Sky Movies (or The Movie Channel) back in 1990 or 1991. I've purchased it on DVD and ended up with a Blu-ray copy of it when I was collecting Rambo films before Covid hit in 2020.

Stallone Blu-ray Films

I know Donald Sutherland is best known for movies like The Dirty Dozen right through to The Hunger Games series of films but it'll always be Lock Up if I had to pick one to recommend. In fact, I have done so at certain points in my lifetime.

And I am doing it now. Seek it out!
