A Few Thoughts After Watching The Iron Claw

The movie about one of professional wrestling's most tragic families - the Von Erichs - was released on Blu-ray and DVD earlier this week.

I got myself a copy and watched it last night.

The Iron Claw is all about Fritz Von Erich and his sons who all become wrestlers and the tragedies that befell them while trying to make a name in the business.

Yes - this is a pro wrestling film. But, it's more than that. Brotherhood is the main theme of the movie.

As a pro wrestling fan, I obviously knew the story already. I was intrigued to see how the film industry would tell it. There were a few things which stood out to me like having only four brothers in the movie when there had actually been five (a sixth brother died as an infant, but he is referred to in the film).

Other than that, I thought the film was excellent. I even had cloudy eyes at the conclusion.

I thought the best bit of casting went to the actor who played the family's patriarch. Holt McCallany looks, and sounds, exactly like Fritz Von Erich. It was incredible to see what they did with him,

The Iron Claw comes highly recommended to all. As mentioned earlier, it's more than just a pro wrestling movie.
