Despite what some might tell you - there are no such things as 'locks' in betting.
I have used the 'there are no locks in any form of betting' to people who have asked me about my bets on American football and pro wrestling quite recently.
With all that said, I truly did think I had placed a wager that would not lose.
And, to prove my point correct, it lost.
In early 2023, I gambled on Damar Hamlin to win the NFL Comeback Player of the Year award.
The bet was struck weeks after Hamlin had collapsed during a Monday Night Football game between his team - the Buffalo Bills - and the Cincinnati Bengals.
I was confident that, if Hamlin were to take the field for at least one snap in the 2024 season, the bet would win.
After all, he would have came back from near death.
Well - Hamlin recovered enough to play again.
I thought the win was secured.
Not so fast.
Joe Flacco, who came back from sitting on his sofa at the start of the 2023 season, signed for the Cleveland Browns and took the team to the post-season.
He was the winner.
At least I made my point: there are no locks.
