National Doughnut Day

It's National Donut Day today.

Or, as I am meant to write it: National Doughnut Day.

National Donut Day

Yep - I was once again alerted to the strange holiday by my Garbage Pail Kids 2023 Page-a-Day calendar.

I believe the best way to celebrate such an occasion would be to buy a few doughnuts later and have them after my dinner.

I'll also share with you some doughnuts that are no longer with us. I'm sure I've written about them in the past.

Both were from Greggs the Bakers.

The first was one I had many, many times - The fondant ring doughnut. It was a ring doughnut (obviously!) and had a black and white coating on top. The topping would be so heavy that it often cover the top part of the hole.

I'd always have one whenever I'd buy a ploughman's baguette and a cherry Coke from the bakeries to have on my return home from shopping in the early-to-mid 2000s.

It was a staple of the Greggs menu but appears to have vanished over time.

The second doughnut I miss was one which seemed to be around for a short period of time. And I am talking months, not years. It was a full doughnut filled with a coconut cream. It also had a white coconut top, if I recall correctly.

I'd do anything for either one of those doughnuts to return. I am not playing any games here. I refuse to choose which one I would prefer. The answer, if forced, would be.. BOTH!
