Payton Leaves His Place

I see that Sean Payton has called time on his tenure at the New Orleans Saints.

Within those fifteen years, he coached the team to one Super Bowl. Against the Colts, yes.

Bringing the Vince Lombardi Trophy to a city that had - years earlier - been devastated by Hurricane Katrina was quite the story back then. Considering how poor the Saints were in the seasons leading into - and shortly after - the hurricane makes that win all the more spectacular.

Of course Drew Brees and others played a part in the Saints' glory.

Brees left just before the most recent season began.

Whoever comes in will now have the task of working with a team that is heavily in trouble when it comes to the salary cap.

A rebuild in New Orleans is inevitable. As the years following 2005 proved, it can be done.
