13 For '13 : Wild Card Update

On February 18th of 2012. I titled a blog post 13 for '13. The aim of this post was to highlight thirteen NFL teams that I thought would be worth having a punt on.

The intention was to return to the topic once the season had concluded so - as we're now in the postseason - it's time to see how things are panning out.

One thing I should point out is I seem to have ended up selecting fifteen teams since I wrote the piece last year. I don't know why I ended up betting on two extra teams. If I had to guess, it must have been something to do with Peyton Manning when he was talking to a number of teams in the week after he was released from the Indianapolis Colts.

The teams still in contention - along with their odds - are as follows.

AFC Teams

Indianapolis Colts (100/1)

They'll be facing the Baltimore Ravens on the weekend after a surprising season that was full of drama. I don't like counting Indy out but it's going to be a struggle for them from here.

Cincinnati Bengals (50/1)

The Bengals will play the Houston Texans in the wild card round. I'm not holding out much hope for them because the Texans have been a good team for the majority of the season.

Denver Broncos (50/1)

This is the team where Peyton Manning landed. They've been superb this year. The team have a bye this upcoming week.

NFC Teams
San Francisco (18/1)
The 49ers are another team that secured home field advantage in the playoffs. They have this week off.
Washington (100/1) and Seattle (80/1)
This is where things start getting tricky. Both these teams are playing each other on Sunday night. It's going to be one of those weird ones where I would like Washington to win because they offer the better odds if they win the Super Bowl. However, I think Seattle have a better chance of progressing to the big game because they've been playing extremely well. Bottom line - I am guaranteed a win and a loss here.
I'll check back next week to see how things went in the wild card round and look forward to the divisional match-ups.
