A Question On Sport

I dedicated yesterday's post to discussing, in part, Wonga.com's sponsorship deal with Newcastle United. Today - I return to the subject due to a new news story I cannot get my head around.

One of the main stories on The Sun website is about the new deal and how it will compromise the club's Muslim players.

According to Sharia Law, the players will be sinning if they wear the Wonga.com sponsorship on their kit due to Islam forbidding 'followers from benefiting through money lending, so earning interest is not allowed.'

I genuinely don't understand this story..

Virgin Money are the current sponsors of the Premier League team.

That's the Barclays Premier League for those paying attention.

Am I missing something?

I know there's a difference between a loan company and a bank. What I don't understand is all three examples I have used offer loans so shouldn't this mean the players were already breaking this religious law by wearing Virgin Money on their shirts?

Count me as confused.

And while you're at it, count this as a non-story.
