Who's Gonna Win?

One year in the making.

When the match between John Cena and The Rock was announced one year ago, I was looking forward to writing today's post. I had a feeling that the anticipation for the bout would have been great.

If I am to be honest, I am not as excited as I had envisioned fifty-two weeks ago. However, I am still looking forward to seeing how this match ends.

I've been back-and-forth on who I should lock in as my favourite to win this bout.

On the one hand, you have The Rock. He hasn't wrestled in a singles match since 2003. He is also wrestling in his home of Florida so he has the local fans in his corner.

And then there is John Cena.

Cena is the current top star in professional wrestling. He's the franchise. A captain who is on the team all the time. The Rock is a bit-part player these days.

That's how they have been portrayed on WWE TV recently.

Pro wrestling 101 states that the person leaving the territory has to do the job on the way out. He has to put over the person who will remain.

So, if we're using that logic - John Cena should be the victor.

Should.

My money (all £2 of it) is going on The Rock,

Call it a gamble, or call it a feeling after hearing there may be rematches down the line.

When you hear rumours like that, logic does take a backseat.

Update
After typing this up on Friday evening, the rumours of Brock Lesnar making an appearance at WrestleMania surfaced.
Personally, I'd like Lesnar to involve himself in the Undertaker vs Triple H match leading to a bout between Undertaker and him at next year's show.
What should be taken into account is something The Rock has said in interviews recently. He has been open to a WrestleMania match with Lesnar so we could see the former UFC star involved in the finish of the main event.
If that is the case - Cena will win after this interference.
