I've just finished watching last night's WWE Money in the Bank pay-per-view so thought I would comment on the finish.
As I mentioned in yesterday's post, there was a lot of speculation as to how the CM Punk quitting WWE as world champion storyline would go.
Many felt that one - or both - Money in the Bank briefcase winners would cash in their title shot and prevent Punk from leaving Chicago as champ.
The actual finish saw Punk defeat John Cena after a very good match. This prompted Vince McMahon to grab the headset and call Alberto Del Rio down to cash in his title shot. Punk was able to escape the arena before the referee could signal for the bell in order to start the impromptu bout.
So, Punk is now a free agent as well as WWE champion (in storyline, obviously). This could make for interesting TV over the next few weeks. I have no idea where they are going with this.
As an aside, I feel I have to mention something funny about the match.
John Cena came out to a bad reaction. The fans were definitely siding with the hometown star, Punk, but there was a part in the match where Cena cheers were starting to be heard. At this moment I thought to myself that the change in allegiance was similar in ways to Rocky IV when the Russian crowd cheered Rocky half-way through his fight with Ivan Drago. Minutes after thinking about this part in the Rocky movie, Booker T - whilst on commentary - made the same analogy causing Michael Cole and Jerry Lawler to laugh at him.
Hey Booker, I got what you meant!
