I have just finished watching last night's episode of WWE Raw and I don't know what to make of the closing bit.
I have purposely logged into the Blogger website before checking the wrestling news because I would rather post something here without any knowledge of what I just saw.
In the final angle on the show, Vince McMahon was about to fire John Cena for failing to defeat CM Punk on Sunday night when Triple H's music hit. Hunter came to the ring and told his boss/father-in-law that there had been a board meeting and the decision was made to terminate McMahon's involvement with WWE. Triple H then revealed that the board had installed him as the new chairman. His first proclamation as chairman was to announce that John Cena was not fired.
The show then ended with Vince, as well as Hunter, in tears. The crowd were also chanting 'Thank you, Vince'.
It was a very odd ending.
I know the Vince McMahon being ousted by the board angle was just a storyline but there was something that made me think that this was the on-air departure of McMahon.
Yes, we have seen minds change all the time in regards to WWE storyline in the past and it is conceivable that Vince will come back but, as I write this, I have a feeling that the current mindset is Vince McMahon - and more so the Mr. McMahon character - is done.
Followers of wrestling will know that Triple H has been working on the corporate end of the business for the past year or so as he is going to be one of the successors to McMahon. Last night's angle appeared - to me - to be one of the first steps in the transition.
With that said, I could be wrong.
