I had to be up early on Sunday morning so thought it would have been best to write something on Saturday afternoon. So, I wrote how I felt about the tragedy in Norway. I then settled down to look at the football results and noticed 'AMY DEAD' as a headline on The Sun website.
It didn't take a brain surgeon to figure out the Amy they were referring to.
I wondered whether I should add some additional words to the post that I had set to publish at 9:45am on Sunday morning but felt it was best just to type something today (Sunday).
You cannot deny that Amy Winehouse was one of the best singer/songwriters to come around in the current day. It's also hard to argue that she was easily led astray into a life that eventually took her.
And that's the sad part of it all.
I have read commentaries from famous people offering their thoughts on the passing of Winehouse. A lot were on board with my sentiment that her talent was shadowed by the drug and drink addiction she encountered.
Then there were those who claimed they were in 'shock' over the death.
Come on now.
One columnist also trying to point fingers at those who led her down this dark path. Fair enough.
Blame was also cast towards those that were unable to help her. I'm not sure it was fair to blame them. It's hard to help someone in those situations if the person doesn't want to be treated. I have no ill thoughts towards those who may have tried their best.
They tried.
The only good that I hope can come from this is that her death leads to people deciding not to live their lives in the way she lived hers. I know, I know - it's wishful thinking.
It's the only good I think could come from this.
