Papa Joe

Two summers ago, I would listen to a nightly (well, it was nightly for yours truly) sports radio show on my favourite American radio station - Sports Byline USA.

The show emanated from Las Vegas and was called The Papa Joe Show.

The host was a man named Papa Joe Chevalier.

There was something about his character that reminded me of some of my favourite British radio hosts and, as I am always clamouring for US sports opinion and debate, his show was my only port of call in those summer nights.

And then he vanished.

I figured that The Papa Joe Show had moved to another station so checked but it seemed he was out of work. For the past two years, I had carried out Google searches in the hope of finding him back on the air but my searches were in vain.

My most recent search for Papa Joe was on Saturday night. The result was not so kind.

Papa Joe had died just a week earlier.

I'm not going to say I was his biggest fan because - like I noted - I only listened to his show for a few weeks. With that said, it was good enough for me to find out if he was working anywhere so it proves just how good he was at what he did.
