How dodgy was Byron Moreno at the 2002 World Cup?

This referee cost Italy a win in the second round of that year's tournament after some controversial refereeing decisions that had many believe the game was fixed in order for South Korea - one of the host nations - to progress.

I remember losing a fair bit on that game, myself.

It was the only match I lost on that year so things weren't all that bad.

I bet you are wondering why I am mentioning this referee after eight years. Well, I just read in the news that he was recently arrested at JFK Airport with approximately six kilograms of heroin.

It sure does look like he was getting paid money from the underworld to smuggle drugs out of the USA.

I wonder how much the crooks paid him for that South Korea victory.
