I don't usually praise soap operas for their storylines but I have to give it to Home and Away for their current one.
This Australian soap is the only one I have time for. I used to prefer it to Neighbours when I was younger but jumped to the other side in the 1990s. I did, however, spend a few years not watching much TV but got back into it three years ago, I suppose.
Anyway, the storyline that I enjoyed was the one involving Hugo Austin and the people smuggling ring he was a part of.
The plot lasted an entire year and there were so many clues left along the way to prove that the good guy, Austin, was really a bad guy but it all didn't become entirely clear until the season finale (Australian soaps have Christmas off or something and they have a break for most of January).
The flashbacks put everything into place and it was well written which was surprising because I always thought Aussie soap operas were written with short storyline arcs which were basic to say the very least.
The Hugo Austin character is now under a witness protection programme after the police faked his death. I'm not sure if that's how it will end or whether he comes back another time - the door is obviously open for him.
Like I said, I was really impressed with the way this entire plot - and its subplots - were woven together throughout the year - a bit like a jigsaw that had a lot of pieces which created a masterpiece.
I better check my temperature - I just praised Home and Away as a masterpiece!
