Sir Bobby Robson

Bobby Robson.

What can I say?

I'm not going to draw on his full career today. I'm just going to highlight one of the things he did at the end of it.

This is the guy who saved Newcastle United.

When Kevin Keegan left in 1997, emotion went with it.

Kenny Dalglish and Ruud Gullit didn't have the bond to the club and it was evident with both managers lasting a little over a season each.

And then came Bobby Robson.

Robson was a fan.

He had the passion. And what's more - he kept the club from spiralling into the chaos it had the potential to cause.

There is no coincidence that everything that has befallen the club has happened since they got rid of him.

I'll never forgot that day he had to leave and there were fans literally laying in the road trying to prevent his car from leaving. He had to get out to console them.

That's emotion.
