Last night's Monday Night Raw was great.
It has been a long time since I enjoyed an episode of the show. The return of some of the superstars from the past was a good part of the anniversary celebrations.
Here are some observations I made last night.
-Sunny is looking pretty again! The last time she was on television was in early 2000 and was at a time when she was dabbling with drugs. She let herself go and looked a shadow of her former self. I saw a picture of her a number of years ago and she had put on tons of weight and looked a lot like Greg 'The Hammer' Valentine.
-Hulk Hogan didn't seem to get as big a reaction from the crowd than I thought he would.
-They teased a reunion of the former members of Evolution in the week leading up to the show but Randy Orton refused to take part in it. Instead the three members wrestled Orton, Edge and Umaga. It made perfect storyline sense to do this. You don't want the company's top heel becoming a face for a night the week leading into a pay-per-view.
-What a surprise it was to see Marty Jannetty in the main event!
-Rob Van Dam showing up was another shock of the night. I didn't think he would return to wrestling since walking away earlier this year. He had told interviewers he left because he was burnt out as was enjoying time away from the ring.
-Steve Austin coming out at the end and doing the Stone Cold Stunner to Vince McMahon was predictable.
-Where was Damian Demento?* He was in the main event of the first Raw and was one of the shortest lived characters in the then WWF. They should have brought him back for one night only due to the historical significance of his main event match with Undertaker in January 1993.
*I actually do know where he was! He contacted me to tell me he was going to be working on a new sculpture. Yes, that's right, the man who once hailed 'from the outer reaches of your mind' is now an artist and regularly shows his work on his Youtube page.
