25 Years Of The Commodore 64

On the morning of Christmas Day 1987 a Commodore 64 was waiting for me in the living room. It would become the computer that stayed with me through the remainder of my junior school and early high school days.

The reason why I am mentioning the Commodore in today's post is because the machine is celebrating its twenty-fifth birthday today.

The C64 had many great games for it. I would be here all day if I were to list all of my favourites for the computer. If I were to name just two games it would have to be Fire-Trap and Rainbow Islands.

Fire-Trap was based on a sky scraper on fire and you were a man with a futuristic backpack on that let out blasts of water. You would climb up the side of the building with this water jet on your back and put the fire out as well as freeing the people trapped in the inferno by throwing them out of their window.

It was one of the first games I got. My Aunt and Uncle brought it around for me on the first day I had the C64.

If Fire-Trap was one of the first games I had for the computer then Rainbow Islands would have been one of the last.

Rainbow Islands was a big arcade game that made it to computers. It was a platform game where you had to work your way up to the top of the screen using rainbows that you could make by throwing stars out of your hand.

Like I said earlier - there were tons of good games for this computer. These two bring back fond memories when I think back about it. Things have improved in the computer and gaming world since the birth of the Commodore but I would like to bet that if it wasn't for my Commodore my love of computing and gaming would be a lot different.
