It is the second Sunday in succession that the WWE is hosting a pay-per-view event. This time it is the ECW brand's December to Dismember show which is emanating from the James Brown Arena in Augusta, Georgia.
There has been a lot of talk over the last few months that certain higher-ups in the WWE headquarters are not too keen on this brand. The main reason being that ECW was not a 'McMahon Product' as it was the idea of Paul Heyman who competed with the WWF in the 1990's and early 2000's with his company.
The ECW company was deemed bankrupt in early 2001 and its trademarks were later bought out by the WWE and earlier this year the company was relaunched as the WWE's third television show.
The conspiracy theory about ECW being doomed for failure due to the managements hatred of it looks on the money when you conisder certain aspects of tonight's show.
Firstly, it comes a week after a major pay-per-view event which featured all three brands under the WWE umbrella. Events like the Survivor Series sell more than a single brand show which features just the one cast of performers.
Secondly, this is not just the second pay-per-view in a row. The TNA company had their Genesis event a week before the WWE aired Survivor Series. Next week the TNA returns to PPV with another show and then on Sunday 17th the WWE Smackdown hosts the company's final pay-per-view of the year with Armageddon.
That's five weeks of shows that the paying public are expected to hand out money for. As December To Dismember is sandwiched in between four other events at a period in time where money is scarce due to Christmas I believe it hasn't been given a chance to succeed.
Finally. the WWE have only announced two matches for tonight. In a desperate attempt to get people interested they have wheeled out their Elimination Chamber which will pit six of the top stars in ECW fighting for the title.
There is also a tag team featuring the reformed Hatdy Boys against the reformed MNM. Curiosity purchases seem to be the WWE approach to selling this event.
The WWE website has only listed these two bouts yet I have been led to believe that there is a third match on the card featuring Bob Holly against The Sandman. The latters arm and Singapore cane coming out of a chimney with Christmas lights on barbed wire have appeared on all the posters for the event.
The poster was the most thought about aspect of this show - it surely is the best piece of marketing the company has done in years.
It's just a shame that they hadn't put more thought into the show itself.
