I played two tournaments tonight and lost holding Big Slick in the first and Little Slick in the second.
The first beat came in the French Amateur Open when my AK got beaten by a pair of nines.
I should have learnt my lesson because in the second tournament of the evening when I went all-in with AQ. I had lost the earlier game with cards better than this so the all-in move was risky.
I thought I had it sewn up when my opponent turned over K5. The flop gave him a king to pair up so I was looking like I was out. The turn card gave me an ace so I gained the lead. Only a five or another king would have saved my rival in the hand.
And then came another king.
AK and AQ are a lot of people's favourite hands but I am starting to learn they are a lot of trouble to play. I have played against them and played with them and have lost so I just cannot find a right way to play them.
I'll fold in future.
But that's easier said than done!
