Paddy Power Poker started their promotion towards next Easter's Irish Open tonight with a freeroll tournament with the winner getting a place in the 2,000,000 Euro guaranteed event.
I took part as it has been one of my goals for the past eighteen months to qualify for the 2005 and 2006 Opens.
I didn't fare too well, though. I lost within the first quarter of an hour. It had 535 runers so was more like a lottery than a poker game. Things will change over the next few days, however, as the qualifiers start at around $12 and will lessen the field a bit.
Like I said, it has been a goal and I have a few months to improve my game and make it to the event. In the meantime I am going to take as much experience as I can from the live games at the Grosvenor to help along the way.
And if I fail - then at least I gave it a shot.
