The Season Bet : Part 1

Every year around this time I do a big accumulator bet on the football for the season ahead.

The closest (if you can call it close) I came was in the 2002/3 season when Ipswich and Hull not finishing in the top of their respective leagues cost me a potential profit of £99,900.

This year I am debating whether to stick to the accumulator route and hope the teams I pick will finish in order for me to win on each way terms or I may do a combination bet where I can pick six teams and have them all in a Lucky 63 bet.

The Lucky 63 bet means I will have to lay out a lot more money but I think it could be the best way to bet as it will still win me something if one or two teams let me down. This is something that is not possible on a straight accumulator bet.

I still have a few weeks to decide what to do. The Italian court case has prevented the bookmakers from listing the odds on Serie A winners but I would go for AC Milan even though they start their season with a point defecit.

I will be updating the progress of the bets throughout the upcoming season and in the next part I will detail my final decision.

Currently on my list are ;

-Aberdeen to be on top of the Scottish Premier League without Celtic, Rangers and Hearts in the running at 3/1

-Bayern Munich to win the German League 4/7

- Real Madrid to triumph in La Liga 2/1

-Lyon to become champions of France's Lique 4/9

- Chelsea to win the Premier League title again 4/9

I am also thinking about adding an American Football selection to the bet and having my favourite team; the Indianapolis Colts to win Super Bowl XLI. This is priced at 6/1.

There's going to be a big decision in the next fortnight or so
