Inside The Edge

A letter I had written was published in this month's Inside Edge magazine.

It was in relation to the press covering the gambling ways of Jonathan Woodgate.

Here is a copy of the letter followed by the editor's response;

Only weeks after reading James Eastham's editorial in your January 2006 isssue and another 'sports star is a gambler' story hits the headlines.
I'm referring, of course, to Jonathan Woodgate making the front page of many daily newspapers due to having bet nearly £2 million while sitting out of the Real Madrid with injury.
I can't see why his £150,000 loss warrants the press attention it received. He earns about £70,000 a week, so being paid silly money allows him to place the silly wagers. Now, if he was earning £60 a week on a YTS training scheme and was £150,000 down from sports betting then that would be worth the scandalous coverage this story was given.

We couldn't agree more, David. And Mr. Woodgate if you're reading feel free to give us a call. I think you will find us a very sympathetic ear.
