I have recently found myself watching Prisoner Cell Block H before bed each weeknight.
The funny thing about randomly finding it on 5Select at this point in time is that the current episodes are around the parts where I became a fan.
I first started watching the series during the summer of 1992. I was able to stay up late. My next door neighbour, as well as my father, had been watching it for years before me. I happened to catch an episode or two during that summer and was hooked.
When it came time to go back to school, staying up to watch the programme was no go. So, I would record the episode and watch it the following day. I would then repeat the process.
Now, much older, I can watch at my own leisure. On top of that - there are two episodes a night! That's eight more eps a week than my diet was back in '92 and beyond.
Anyway, back to what's going on - Bea Smith has just been caught after going on the run from the prison. Nola McKenzie has become top dog and has a racket going on by bringing drugs into the prison.
Oh yeah - and Nola and some of her goons have beaten Bea up. This is all leading up to one of the scenes I remember the most from my time watching the series: Bea Smith being in the medical wing and asking the guards to bring Nola in to see her. Bea asks Nola to come closer, she does, Bea then pulls out a homemade gun from under her bedcovers and shoots Nola right between the eyes.
I'm looking forward to seeing this bit again. Even back then it came off as hokey, but I bloody loved it.
It has to be coming real soon because Bea is currently in the hospital room. Any day now.
