Raw Thoughts (6/1/25)

I stayed up to watch all of WWE Monday Night Raw last night. I genuinely cannot recall the last time I ever did that. It was possibly the night of Ric Flair's retirement way back in 2008.

That's not to say I haven't watched Raw at all since then. I've watched almost every episode since then. It's just I've done so the following day with a remote control in my hand so I can fly through commercials and crappy matches and segments.

I had to watch last night's Raw live because it was the debut on Netflix. I wanted to see it all play out in realtime.

Even though I'm quite tired right now, and I'm sure to hit a wall by the end of the day, I thought it was the right call to stay up for the show.

The highlights - for me - were the main event (CM Punk beat Seth Rollins) and the promo made by John Cena which more or less strengthened my belief that Cena will win the Royal Rumble in what is his final year as a pro wrestler. As you'll see below, I predicted that Cena would challenge for either of the world titles at this year's WrestleMania in the January 1st Post

2025 Prediction

Granted, I worded it in the way where it was open to Cena gaining a title shot via the Rumble or by winning in the Elimination Chamber a month later.

That was my trick, anyway.

Another 'highlight' or rather something which stood out to me was the negative reaction Hulk Hogan received from the Los Angeles audience.

He was booed. They knew he would be. You could tell by the fact they had Jimmy Hart out with him waving the flag of the USA. The people anticipating the boos figured the patrons wouldn't boo someone if they were supporting the US. That's how it felt.

The thing is, Hogan was caught on camera using racial slurs all those years ago. People haven't forgotten. That act had him removed from WWE for many years. Every single occasion since he was brought back has seen Hogan receive a negative reaction. I repeat - people don't forget.

His endorsing of Donald Trump on the most recent election trail is another wrinkle to this Hogan being booed thing.

His legacy is tarnished. And it pains me to write that considering how much of a fan of his I was as a child. I wouldn't be a wrestling fan if it wasn't for the Hulkster.

I might have to watch some more episodes live. Especially with the International Netflix audience seemingly not having any commercial breaks. If, or rather - When, that changes, I'll return to my routine of watching the show the next day.
