I came across the following post when I was on TAFKA Twitter last night.
It states that, according to Deadline, Warner Bros. is looking to create new Gremlins and The Goonies movies.Funnily enough, I entertained the idea of a third Gremlins film a few weeks ago when I watched Gremlins for the 2024 edition of The Diet of Christmas Films.
Knowing that 2024 was the fortieth anniversary of its release, I thought to myself that '2024 would have been a perfect year to revisit this franchise'.
And that's all there was to it. I moved on figuring we already had the Gremlins content we were due with the two original movies plus the prequel animated series - Gremlins: Secrets of the Mogwai - which came out not that long ago.
As for The Goonies - well, according to the article, it looks like that film is only being talked about right now. No script has been written. Just a treatment being broached.
For the love of God, I hope they don't go there.
The Goonies is perfect as it is. We don't need a reboot.
If they have to, I suppose a sequel - with all the original Goonies returning - would give me a nostalgia kick. I just don't want it to tarnish the original story in any way.
So - consider me very open to a third Gremlins film (no CGI, though!) but very cautious about a return to the Goon Docks.
The Goonies will celebrate its fortieth sometime this year.
