The losing play was the gamble on the Cleveland Browns, who were +1 road underdogs against the New Orleans Saints. The final score was 35-14 to the home team.
For the second week in succession, the Steelers won for the spreadsheet and database series. The team had entered their game against the impressive Baltimore Ravens as +3 dogs. The Steelers not only covered the spread, they won straight up with an 18-16 scoreline.
The spreadsheet has the Philadelphia Eagles to beat the Los Angeles Rams by six points on Sunday Night Football.
The database likes the play because the Eagles are 11-4 in meetings with the Rams dating back to the mid-1990s. They're also 7-1 in those games when the bookmakers have them positioned as favourites.
Philadelphia is 5-2 on the road against the Rams in the period the database covers. And, to narrow it down even more, they're 3-0 when they've been cast as the road dogs in those visits.
I have taken Eagles -3.
As I have written many times over the years, the Indianapolis Colts are my favourite team. One of my favourite games I ever watched them play live will celebrate its twentieth anniversary next week because it was a Thanksgiving game against the Detroit Lions.
On that day, Indianapolis came into Ford Field as nine-point favourites. They won the game 41-9 with the score falling Under the totals line of 53.5.
That was Week 12 of 2004. We now see the Colts versus Lions again. Another Week 12, but the roles are reversed. This time, the Lions are the road favourites. The total is a little bit shorter than back then as it is currently at 50.5.
My spreadsheet has the game to have a total fifty-nine points. So, it's obviously calling for this one to go Over.
The 2004 game was one of two fixtures the database has recorded as falling Under the total. There are four other fixtures which went Over and one hit the nose with a Push.
If we look at that 4-2-1 record and trim it down to only games that have been played with Indianapolis as the home team, then the record becomes 2-0-1.
As of this post, the spreadsheet and database is at 11-9. Staying afloat, but needs an improvement in the final stretch as the Super Bowl looms closer.
