Richardson Taps Out

When the Indianapolis Colts drafted Anthony Richardson - to be their next franchise quarterback - in 2023, I was looking forward to seeing how he would perform.

Richardson had a lot of sceptical analysts at the time. He has a lot more now.

His 2023 season ended abruptly following an injury. So - it was all eyes on his 2024 campaign.

2024 has not shown any signs of progress. An incident in last night's game, against the Houston Texans, has punctuated the doubts pertaining to Richardson being the Colts' long-term QB.

During the game, Richardson tapped his helmet. It's a sign for the coaching staff that the player needs to leave the game.

He missed the following play.

Richardson Taps

At the postgame press conference, Richardson was honest enough to tell the reporters he wanted to take a breath because he was tired.

I have not played American football at any level, so I feel conflicted with what I am about to write. However, I think what Richardson did last night was a bad sign. It sends a bad message to teammates and the fans. It's one step lower than outright quitting. In my book, of course.

The doubters from the spring of 2023 have enough evidence, through bad play, to say 'told you so'. The helmet tapping gave them a home run.
