Sarah Boone was being prosecuted for the murder of her partner - Jorge Torres - by leaving him trapped inside a suitcase during an evening of intoxication.
I had heard of Boone - and her crime - months before the trial when she was in the news after losing so many lawyers. She was evidently difficult to get along with and, at one point, it looked like she was going to represent herself in the courtroom. That didn't transpire in the end, though. She found a team willing to work with her.
The court witnessed a lot of disturbing content. Most was filmed by Boone herself. The main one being Torres inside the suitcase, asking for help because he couldn't breathe, and Boone telling her captive (because that's what Torres was), she was going to leave him in there. As he called her name, Sarah Boone told Torres 'that's my name don't wear it out'.
A forty-two year old woman at the time, I should add.
I watched the trial extensively. The jury went out to deliberate late last night. I woke up to find a video indicating a decision had been reached overnight. Boone was found guilty of second-degree murder.
And that was the right call.
