The Star Wars series, which is set in a period long before the Skywalker Saga, was critically panned. A lot of people critiqued how 'woke' it was. Amongst other things. Even the stars and other staff of the series didn't help themselves judging by some of their comments during press junkets.
With that said, and I did struggle with the programme at times, I was keen to see how the story continued because - in the final episode - we were treated to a very brief appearance by Darth Plagueis (if you're a Star Wars fan you'll understand how big that was) and, as the episode was closing, the last image we saw was of the back of Yoda's head. A young Yoda at that considering The Acolyte is set over a hundred years before The Skywalker Saga.
So, with those teases in the last ep, I thought the odds of the series being cancelled was quite high.
And there, once again, proves to never bet on the minds of the US TV people. The evident Hail Mary, to secure a second season, was not snared in the end zone.
It wasn't even caught.
