Southgate Departs

Gareth Southgate resigned from his post as boss of the England national team yesterday.

It wasn't a surprise. I expected he would go even if he had led the team to Euro 2024 triumph on Sunday evening.

As I have written in all the years of blogging, I dislike the England team. However, I will state this: Southgate's sides did fear me somewhat. Those close calls, in the past two Euros, should especially emphasise my point.

Ironically, I don't believe the successor will be as successful.

Those might be words I'll live to regret.

I have a feeling Gareth Southgate will find himself as the Manchester United boss. Yes, Erik ten Hag has re-signed, but I have a feeling there will come a dodgy run of games sometime in the upcoming season that will result in changes being made.

My prediction isn't that amazing, however.

Southgate is the favourite in 'Next Permanent Manchester United Manager' betting markets and 'Manchester United' is second-favourite in the market which allows people to punt on where Southgate ends up next.

The favourite in the latter market is 'Newcastle United' which is currently guided by Eddie Howe, who is one of the names in the running to replace Southgate for the national job.

It's a bit like a carousel, isn't it?
