I have just entered stats in my database to see what it predicts for  Thursday night's NFL game between the Atlanta Falcons and Carolina Panthers.

It has the Falcons picking up the win by two points and for the total to be fifty.

With the bookmakers, as of the time of writing, offering Atlanta as three-point favourites and a total line set at forty-four, it has Carolina covering the spread as home dogs and for the over to hit.

I have had a look at the database, which has results dating back to 2001, to see if anything stands out. It did not make for positive reading.

• Carolina are 12-14-1 against the spread as underdogs against Atlanta
• They're 3-5-1 as home underdogs
• The Over is 15-25-3 over all the meetings since 2001
• The Over is 5-14-2 when Carolina is the home team

Not good at all!
