Someone on The Sun website reviewed it. She seemed very taken by its similarity to a real lasagne. The burger is made up of, and I'll quote the McDonald's website, '..layers of two 100% beef patties, mozzarella, onions, crispy onions, a rich tomato sauce, lettuce and a smooth cheese sauce all served within a freshly toasted tomato-and-basil flavoured bun'.
I had to try it.
Here's what it looked like as soon as I opened the packaging, which - in a way - is also Italian themed as it looked like a pizza box (if I say so myself).
The reviewer in The Sun went overboard with her assessment that it truly tasted like a lasagne. In my opinion, the ONLY ingredient in this thing which made it taste anything like the famous pasta dish is the aforementioned 'rich tomato sauce'. The cheese sauce did nothing to make it give off a lasagne feel. It was all in the tomato sauce. And that's it.
To be fair, they could have simply added a couple of pepperoni slices and said 'Hey look, we've created a pizza-inspired burger' and I would have stated 'Yes, yes.. they have!'
The Italian Stack is part of McDonald's 'Taste of Italy' range which will be available in restaurants right through to July 26. Other products currently in this themed promotion are a Crispy Chicken Italiano burger and a McFlurry which tastes of Tiramisu.
