2020: The Year In Review

In what has become a tradition on this blog over the years, I have dedicated the January 1st posts to looking ahead to the upcoming fifty-two weeks by sharing a few predictions. Then, on the 31st of December, I take a look back at everything I wrote to see whether I was right or wrong.

Below are the things I guessed would happen in 2020. It should go without saying that I did not guess there would be a worldwide pandemic...

Andrew Luck will come out of retirement, but it won't be for the Indianapolis Colts

As of today, Luck is still retired. 

Luck will be a Tampa Bay Buccaneer

I double-downed on my prediction for Andrew Luck by saying he would become a member of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This was another incorrect call.

Kevin Owens will win the men's 2020 WWE Royal Rumble

No - it was Drew McIntyre.

Shayna Baszler will win the ladies' 2020 WWE Royal Rumble

Charlotte Flair won by eliminating Baszler last!

Daniel Bryan .vs. Roman Reigns will be the main event of WrestleMania 36

I was wrong. The main event was Brock Lesnar versus Drew McIntyre. I might use this prediction for 2021!

Eli Manning will depart the New York Giants and sign for the Chicago Bears

Manning did indeed depart the Giants, but he retired.

Tyson Fury will lose by a split-decision to Deontay Wilder on February 22

Fury won by TKO in the seventh round

An NFC Team will win the Super Bowl (I'm tied between Green Bay and San Francisco, but leaning more on the latter)

The Kansas City Chiefs, who are in the AFC, won the Super Bowl

Joe Swash will win Dancing on Ice

He did win!

Belgium will win Euro 2020

The tournament was delayed until 2021

Liverpool will win the Premier League

They did!

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer will be sacked as Manchester United manager by Valentine's Day

He is still employed by United as of the time of writing

The Irishman will win an Oscar for Best Picture

It didn't. Parasite won it.

Martin Scorcese will win one for Best Director

Boon Joon-Ho, who directed the aforementioned Parasite, was this year's winner

Adam Sandler will be Best Actor for his role in Uncut Gems

Nope, it was Joaquin Phoenix for Joker

Lucy Fallon will be a contestant on either Strictly Come Dancing or I'm a Celebrity 2020

Nope

John Cena will win his 17th world title

Another nope

Kazuchika Okada will win this year's G1 Climax tournament

It was Kota Ibushi again
