The G1 Diet

In seven hours from now, New Japan Pro Wrestling's G1 Tournament will begin.

The first date of the tourney is today and it will end on Sunday August 16th. There are a total of nineteen events from start to finish. Crazy, huh?

Well - even crazier is the fact that I plan to watch every single one!

I have signed up to NJPW World, which is the company's streaming service. It'll air all the shows live and works out at a little over five pounds a month.

With WWE Battleground starting in an hour from the time this post is published, it'll mean I have to try and catch three hours sleep before the event. If I fail to wake up in time, I'll be able to catch the show on demand later in the day. However, as of right now, the plan is to be up for the live stream.

Back in the 1990s and early 2000s, I was a hardcore fan of Japanese wrestling. My interest waned due to the tape trading businesses drying up in this country (I used to get the VHS tapes from people who copied them). Since then, I have only been following this genre of pro wrestling through the news or seeing clips and matches on YouTube.

I have never seen a Japanese show aired live so this is a new experience. I really am looking forward to the next nineteen days even if day one will be a bugger to get through!

Expect me to write a fair bit about this throughout the next three-to-four weeks.
