The Philadelphia Eagles Home Opener Trend

Whilst watching the NFL play-offs on Sunday night, I was reminded of something that had caught my attention in July of last year and had completely forgotten about.

There has been a trend going for the past few seasons where the teams that have competed against the Philadelphia Eagles in the Eagles' first home games of each season have gone on to win the Super Bowl in that particular year.

The spookiness started in 2009 when the New Orleans Saints visited Philly in week two, 2010 saw the Green Bay Packers start their season at Lincoln Financial Field and end with a Super Bowl victory, 2011's New York Giants and 2012's Baltimore Ravens also made their first road games of their respective winning years as road opponents to the Eagles.

So, you ask, who did the Eagles first play at home this year?

The answer - San Diego.

The Chargers are still in with a shout of winning the Super Bowl after defeating the Cincinnati Bengals in the wild card round. They face a tough visit to Denver on Sunday, despite the fact they have already bested the Broncos in 2013.
