Reffin' Hell

The replacement referee situation in the NFL was something I didn't get into for the past few weeks because I felt all the controversy that has arisen since the start of the season has had more to do with the media over-selling.

And I was sort of still thinking that.

It's hard not to notice that there have been some pretty dreadful calls in week three.

The Green Bay Packers game against the Seattle Seahawks on Monday night was the final straw.

At the close of the game, the Packers were 12-7 up against their opponents. The Seahawks threw a Hail Mary pass. Part of the ball was caught by a Seattle player, the other by a Green Bay player.

The play was ruled a touchdown for Golden Tate even though he had caused pass interference by forcing Sam Shields to the ground before making the catch. On top of that, Packers cornerback M.D. Jennings was also in possession of the ball. And, if I see clearly, Jennings had a better grasp of the ball.

In layman's terms, the finish was a farce.

For starters, the play should have been ruled dead by pass interference and should not have ended in a touchdown when the receiving player didn't have as much possession of the ball as the defending player.

Bad, bad call.

Furthermore, when you consider the first three weeks of the season - bad, bad calls.
