There was a video on The Sun website showing footage of a circus in North Korea. After watching it, I felt in awe and disgusted at the same time.
The film showed circus performers with two monkeys on ice skates (or roller blades, I cannot tell properly). The animals are sliding around and doing tricks. They then went down slides and were performing amazingly. Their final act was to throw a bunch of balls into basketball nets.
It truly was amazing seeing the animals doing that.
The second clip showed two bears skipping with a rope. They were jumping in rhythm with two circus performers and were doing such a good job.
And that's where I feel guilty.
Despite how amazed I was at seeing the animals, I couldn't shake off the feeling that they were trained to do these circus skills harshly. Also, it's obvious the bears were more than likely drugged or numbed so they wouldn't act naturally.
So, yeah, it was amazing sight to see. However, it's difficult to shake off the feeling that they were mistreated backstage and beyond.
